This international project for Merkur Bets involved the design and development of both mobile and web applications tailored to the dynamic world of sports betting.

The goal was to design, implement and launch the betting app before Euro 2024 in Germany. Later during the year, it will be gradually rolled out to other European countries.

Every aspect of the user experience was meticulously crafted by our team, ensuring seamless navigation and intuitive interfaces, that elevate the overall betting experience while fostering user engagement.

Project Challenges and Objectives

Catching-up with the Competitors

From the user perspective, the challenge was to rapidly catch up with competitors and deliver best-in-class solutions with high usability, intuitive interfaces and clear information hierarchy.

Developing Towards a Fixed Release Date

To meet a fixed release date, the teams were developing essential features during the discovery phase. Continuous communication between the design and development teams facilitated immediate adjustments based on insights gathered from competitive analysis, customer needs, behaviour mapping, and user testing.

Provided Solution

Multiplatform Developement

We developed a native app which combines Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM) layer and webviews. In parallel, another team developed the same features for the website using Angular.

Proxy Product Owner Role

Due to the high project complexity, we assigned the special role of a Proxy Product Owner to the project team, which effectively focused the efforts of all tech and product teams and external parties involved in the project. This role was also key in accomodating frequently changing business requirements and needs.

Results

We managed to launch the app and web in Germany on time, which was highly appreciated by the client. Also, the feedback directly from the users has been extremely positive.

We continue the collaboration and effectively support client's goals in scaling the product to other markets, namely Austria, Belgium, and Denmark.
